Frequently Asked Questions

Street Kids International is excited to announce that we will become part of Save the Children to dramatically increase our capacity to help more young people in need. Coming together will create a stronger force in the war on poverty.

Why was this decision made and who was consulted?

Street Kids International works in partnership with other NGOs to create a stronger force in the fight against poverty; as such, this plan is a natural progression towards a mutual mission to combat child poverty. Save the Children’s President, Patricia Erb, has delivered Street Kids trainings in South America, as have other members of Save the Children, who hold our curriculum in high esteem. Therefore, we decided that combining the organizations would have a greater impact on vulnerable youth.

Street Kids International’s toolkits and materials will increase Save the Children’s capacity to deliver innovative livelihoods training whilst expanding Street Kids’ reach to support more youth. And combining the two organizations will result in more cost-effective programming.

Both Boards of Directors fully endorse this decision as the best economical option to increase our impact on poverty.

When is this happening?

As of February, 2015, Street Kids International will be part of Save the Children.

What does this mean for me as a Donor?

This does not change your support of Street Kids International. We will continue fundraising until the end of 2014 to maintain our current projects. Your contributions in the future will be designated to Livelihoods initiatives under Save the Children’s Global Poverty program.

Simply make your annual contribution and we will designate your gift accordingly.

What will you do with my recent donation? Are the project’s still happening?

Yes. We are fundraising as usual to maintain our current projects.

Any recent contributions are already being used in our work overseas and in Canada, and this holiday season, we are actively fundraising for our Ethiopia Project, which your contributions will support, and which the Canadian government matches by 75%. That means that every dollar you donate equals four dollars towards helping Ethiopian youth.

Our Ethiopia Project (now in its third year) will be completed as planned until 2017. This project is Phase 1 of our East Africa Strategy, and the Tanzania expansion is Phase 2. Any donations towards Tanzania have been used in the planning and initial stages for the expansion.

What if I made a donation to Street Kids International in my will?

You will receive your tax receipt as you do each year, and we will take care of the rest.
