The role of youth worker has to be recognized as a very important function. There needs to be stability in their funding, some potential for career advancements and ways to allow youth workers to connect with each other to share best practices, develop strategies and renew their own energy and commitment.”
-- Ontario Roots of Youth Violence Report, 2008
Street Kids International has closely collaborated with youth workers, educators and students to enhance existing educational and youth programming in Canada, particularly in the York Region of Ontario. As part of this work, Street Kids has provided interactive classroom workshops using community mapping, animation, role plays and games to raise awareness about local youth poverty and homelessness. In addition, our three-year Streetjibe program brought youth workers together to build strategies for reducing youth homelessness in York Region.
Our work over the years has resulted in the production of a number of valuable resources on issues affecting street youth, including livelihood opportunities. Please feel free to reference them in your research and pass them on to others.
