We deliver our proven programs to youth workers and they use
these tools to help change the lives of street youth. Our partner
organizations are well established in their communities and are
already working with the street kids that most need our help.
The training of a local youth worker allows for an efficient and resourceful delivery of our award winning programs. We work with our partner organizations to build capacity, and the impact is far reaching long after our work in any given country is completed.
By supporting the training of a local youth worker, we keep our administration costs low allowing a higher percentage of your charitable dollar to impact an increasing number of street kids year after year.
Life was not easy for Krish, an 18 year old who for more than half of
his life has been living on the streets of Nepal without contact with
his family. He has sniffed glue in the past to numb himself from his
reality.
But when he met a youth worker named Kabita, she introduced him to Street Kids International’s programs. While Kabita knew the challenges Krish had faced, she also saw early on how Krish would benefit from taking part in Street Kids Business training . . .
Krish is shy and an artist at heart.” says Kabita. “My training of the Street Kids’ Street Business Toolkit let him learn the basics of starting a business step-by-step. I knew with this knowledge there would be a way for him to channel his artistic talent into positive change in his life. I am pleased to tell you that Krish attended the workshop and he is making great progress in his life.”
The connection between Krish and Kabita has proven to be one
of infinite value; Krish is now partnering with other youth who
have completed the Street Business training to produce ‘glow
candles’ and introduce them to the Nepali market.
The cost of training one youth worker is approximately $1,200. For every youth worker we train we know that an average of 15 street kids will be positively impacted - in just the first year. Moreover, the impact of this new knowledge and training approach builds capacity and has a catalytic effect, helping an increasing number of street kids year after year.
Throughout their career, trained youth workers use programs like the Street Business Toolkit to help kids start small businesses such as road-side restaurants, tailor shops, and hair salons. Our Street Banking program teaches kids to save money, re-invest in their businesses, and begin to pay for basic costs such as rent.
Our ability to pass this information along, from trainer to trainer, country to country has been the key to our success, helping as many street children as possible begin to live better lives off the streets. This is the catalytic effect for which we are recognized.
