Patrycja lives in Łódź, Poland with her parents and two siblings, where the decline of the textile industry has led to a rise in youth employment. In fall 2008 the 18-year-old decided to learn about business and savings skills through Street Kids International’s Street Business training, which she says taught her a lot.
The Street Business trainers make the course interesting and practical so it is easy to follow," she says.
Patrycja wants to be a nail stylist, but she must first take a course to get certification and buy some basic equipment and materials. She also hopes to attend a professional school for cosmeticians.
Her hope is to make money to help her parents, pay for her own basic needs and put profit back into her business.
Young women like Patrycja will benefit from the Street Business Scholarship funded by ECCO. This scholarship will allow disadvantaged Polish youth to purchase equipment for an apprenticeship, take a course or register a business.
