Tobias: mentors by sharing his story

Tobias is one of our Zambian success stories. Tobias was 10 years old when he lost both his parents and ended up on the streets. After a run-in with the police, he was brought to one of Street Kids International’s partner organizations.

Tobias chose to participate in our Street Health program and immediately identified himself with the characters in Karate Kids and Goldtooth (our videos on substance abuse). He explained why he thought kids spent time on the streets, made bad choices and used drugs and alcohol.

Tobias has continued to share his story about his life on the streets and the mistakes that he made. His sharing has an impact on other kids who learn from him and listen to his advice about avoiding drugs and unsafe sexual practices.

Tobias, now in his early 20s, has taken control of his life and mentors other youth. He has recently qualified to go to the University of Zambia.
