our training approach.

The success of our programmes is grounded in the following elements:

Street Kids International along with its partners is continually adopting new innovative practices that enhance the effectiveness of our programs. Our approach to training youth and youth workers sets us apart from other organizations, and is based on the following practices used for our street health and street work programs.

  1. Training of Trainers Methodology

Training of Trainers workshops run 12-16 days and allow youth workers to learn through live demonstrations alongside youth. Trainers are able to ask questions and test the methodology for themselves within the supportive training environment. They are thus able to share their own unique skills and ideas to further develop the most effective techniques.

  1. Fostering Organizational Development

Street Kids International supports local partners in becoming active leaders in developing, promoting and disseminating best practices through partner networks. In addition, Street Kids develops and fosters national teams of master trainers, who take the lead in training others on how to effectively teach street kids. Master trainers work to strengthen the capacity of local NGOs and state-run social services to implement effective learning and earning opportunities for youth. Those who excel have the opportunity to lead trainings in other countries and in doing so reinforce South-South partnerships and knowledge exchange.

  1. Adaptation to local cultural context and experience

Workshops are often reshaped by local partners to enhance the success of income-generating activities within their particular communities. Partners package and share these successful adaptations with peers worldwide to build a firm knowledge base of best practices.

  1. Animation

Our tools include animation about, and for street youth. These animated videos and supporting materials transcend the limits of language and cultural specificity to generate dialogue with young people. Street youth can see their own lives reflected in the stories, and begin to talk and think about meeting their unique challenges head-on.
