Meet Speed - he is the lead character in Speed's Choice, an animation tool used in our Street Business Toolkit. We think Speed is perfect to stand beside our name because he embodies the reality and the potential of street kids everywhere. He is connected to the roots of our organization whose earliest contribution to street kids helped launch a bicycle courier business in the Sudan.
Speed is a compelling character. Street kids everywhere can see a little of themselves in him and, for many street kids around the world, he is already a familiar face. Speed helps us transcend the language barriers of being and organization of global reach with an english name. With Speed, we differentiate ourselves, our work and bring focus to the street kids we work with everyday.

Street Kids International’s use of animation has been innovative, our networking worldwide unparalleled given our size, and our approach of training front-line workers has been repeatedly successful.
For these reasons among others Street Kids International has addressed the issue of street involved youth in a unique and pivotal way. Street Kids International is a trail-blazer that fills critical gaps.
We
addressed HIV/AIDS awareness among disadvantaged youth long before
the need for it was widely understood; we’ve fostered a consensus
among direct service agencies that the economic realities of street
youth must be addressed, and we continue to present effective ways
to accomplishing this.
Our tools include animation about, and for street youth. These animated videos and supporting materials transcend the limits of language and cultural specificity to generate dialogue with young people. Street youth can see their own lives reflected in the stories, and begin to talk and think about meeting their unique challenges head-on.
To date we have produced three animated videos:
Karate Kids: This ground breaking animation profiles life on the streets and looks at how HIV/AIDS impact the lives of street kids.
Gold Tooth: An award winning video recognized by Unicef’s Meena Prize 1996. This video deals with substance abuse and strategies for prevention.
Speed’s Choice: The kick off element of our Street Business Toolkit, this animated video introduces five youth who live on the streets and manage to start their own business.
