Dump School in Honduras
The annual "dump school" is open for classes each year to encourage those children working on the city rubbish dump to come to the AFE School.
The dump is situated on the outskirts of the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa, and can have up to 150 children working there throughout the year.
Children are invited to special classes on the dump and as trust is developed and contact with parents is established then the children are invited to the AFE School which is just across the road from the city dump.
In February teachers from the AFE School went to the dump each day and had around 20 children start classes. Towards the end of March the classes moved from the dump to the school and 12 children now come each day to the school instead of spending their day on the rubbish dump.
Thanks to your support we can run this school and regular visits to the dump throughout the year will help reach more children.
